Dierdre Black Concepts S1
Hoo Laddie, it's time for another sketch dump. This time featuring my newest OC 'Dierdre Black, the Loch Ness Monster. Or more specifically a Cryptid most commonly identified as the Loch Ness Monster. She's got some Ballad of Nessie's "Nessie" in her design inspiration, as well as noodley dragonesses such as Raya and so forth. Sort of a chocolate and peanut butter mixed together to make a perfect combination of the two...with I hope a vast degree of creative design innovation to make her stand out. I'm probably going to be doing a lot of copy+pasting for this post as well, because I've got four sheets here, but I'll try to write a little blurb on each discussing the goal of each sheet I drew up.
This was the first sheet, which was basically just transferring the idea from a pen sketch in the notebook I left by my bed. Basically...I wouldn't say I dreamed about her design, but she came to me during that 'pre-sleep' haze you get just before nodding off. Naturally I was afraid of losing her, so I did a quick doodle in a lined notebook of her basic idea. Deep reddish seaweed for hair and horns all up her back that looked like branches on a log. That all came to me in a snap. But even with that much of her coming out of the ether, I still needed some time to refine her general look which I'll cover on the next concept sheet.
