A Spyro universe OC of mine. She is a dragon species called a Ryutatsu (both singular and plural usage). The main language spoken in the Spyro universe is English, so it's usually pronounced as ree-you-taht-soo. When spoken in Japanese, (where the words "ryu" and "tatsu" come from), it would be pronounced l(d)ee-you-taht-soo (with Romaji carrying the U at the end りゅたつう) or l(d)ee-you-tahts (with Romaji not carrying the U りゅたつ). Japanese R sounds are somewhere between an L sound and a soft D sound. An R-like sound can be heard when spoken quickly enough.
Ryutatsu look somewhat humanoid but they're fully reptilian. Those unfamiliar with them could mistake them as being half human and half dragon. The face is very human-like, except for the short reptilian nose, the sharp teeth, and the color that goes down their foreheads and between their eyes. The skin on the face and the front of the torso come in human-like skin colors and the rest of their body comes in a wide array of colors. Their skin is flexible and tougher than human skin, especially their wing membranes. The wing membranes can heal from tears easily unless the damage is too severe. What appears to be hair or fur on a Ryutatsu is actually downy feathers. They are some of the few warm blooded reptiles like dragons and dinosaurs. Unlike feral reptiles, they have no cloaca. Their genitals are separated (like in mammals) due to being an evolved species and it makes it easier for them to mate.
The feet of a Ryutatsu are dexterous and have thumbs so they can grasp with them. Tendrils grow from the base of the tail on the rump, on either side of the patch of feathers running down the back and tail. These tendrils are also capable of grasping things and support fins for extra lift in the upper tail. Their bones are strong but light and their bodies are slender to allow for easier flight. They are lighter than a similarly sized human. Their feathers are downy, soft, and aerodynamic. The end of the tail is paddle shaped underneath the downy feathers. It gives some extra lift at the back and assists in steering. Ryutatsu are capable of breathing fire like other dragons, and can sometimes use other breath elements obtained through magical spells.
Ryutatsu wear clothes, but Sweetpea is nude here to show anatomy. They wear loose fitting clothing because of their wing membranes. They tend to wear cloaks that drape over the whole body in one piece, or 2 piece sets consisting of cloaks that drape over the arms and chest (like a poncho) and around the waist, legs, and tail. They either hang freely or can be fastened with braces around the neck, arms, legs, and tail. Their clothing is made to not interfere with the wing membranes and fins and their loose clothing maximizes comfort.
Ryutatsu are omnivores. Fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, fish, meat, and baked goods like breads and pastries make up their diet. They are very fond of herbal teas and are skilled hunters. Females can mate at any time after reaching sexual maturity. Her hormones will become strong during fertility when she's beginning to produce eggs, and the scent produced will attract males. She'll usually lay 3 to 4 eggs per week whether she has mated or not. Infertile eggs are a little darker colored and less shiny than fertilized eggs.
