Y'know; I come back to this page at times. Rather the comic in general, but this particular set. And really, while Joyce is certainly the focus at this particular moment, the only one amongst the other nurses who isn't shocked or surprised is Jack. In fact, he almost knows that it was going to occur, that while Yveltal was there, because of Joyce doing what she does, what she demands of herself, Death wouldn't be needed that day.
I must be an odd duck to say that. Or perhaps I've always sensed a connection to death, horrible or morbid that may sound. Hell, the method of passing scares me more than the actual passing. Never could really explain it. Could be my faith; could be just me with the strength I've had to develop thanks to a life of trauma. COuld be the fact that I'm just an absolute loon.
Death, horrible that it can be viewed by some, is the only thing all of us know will meet in our lives save taxes (thanks for that reminder BEN, ya fucker). Some will cower. Some will go silently, emotionless and devoid of reaction. And some will welcome it. Not because they actively seek it. They'll still mourn. They'll still grieve. They'll still hurt. But Death doesn't conquer them. They understand it, know its purpose.
Especially when you're surrounded by it in a hospital setting. This is the sense I get from Jack viewing Joyce mega-evolving. How the smallest little variable can cause Yveltal, Death in case, to stay his hand, to say "Not yet; you still need to live.". And yet in that same vein, how that same variable can call him forth. I suspect he doesn't enjoy it when it happens before what he feels is the "designated time".
A comic I happened upon somewhere, can't recall where precisely, depicts Death to be an eternal rememberance. Peaceful; no suffering, but above all, he speaks of how he loves losing to his counterpart Life, elated to even. The quote, though paraphrasing, is along the lines of
"Any existance whom has finished their time in my realm" while Life grows a flower from her hand...
"Will never be forgotten in mine." while Death mimics the same flower in his.
I get this feeling that given what Jack has said in the past when asked why he chose to be a nurse, it falls into this sense, outside of power over life and death.
Or I could just be waxing poetic and he's just a pleasant little nut.
Sorry for blathering. This day particular is a rough day for me, and if you wish, feel free to hide the comment or ask me too; it is your page, and I wish not to detract from it while exploring a potentially strange sense of philosophy about existance.
