Trivia: in the late 50s, Goodyear actually developed an electro-luminescent, glowing tire, fit for actual road use. The current was provided by a secured wire that attached to a special hubcap. I saw the ad for it in the "goofy car history"-type section of CAR Magazine, the English counterpart to Automobile Magazine.
