Welcome, you, and a pleasure to make your acquaintance! I'm part- or was part- of the Old Guard of Toronto Furry, with Twopaw IC going back more than thirty years to January of 1992 on the Trap Line dial-up BBS, long since gone now. I still have a literal pawful of good friends who I've kept in touch with since those days, and I know three of them are here on FurAffinity as well.
I've never had a red velvet cake of any kind myself, but they look absolutely delicious. Appealing visuals are a great first step for someone like me, having the food aversions and sensory-sensitivities that are a part of my life and eating habits. I do know some of the Islington Furs out in the west end, but not many of them and most of those not all that well; I haven't been going to conventions since the summer of 2006, before Furnal Equinox got started, I believe.
