I think having "little money" keeps FA from 'evolving' too quickly. Look at how DA's user interface has grown progressively worse over the years (according to its users, I've never had an account there).

Yes, people say FA is dated-looking. The circumstances making it that way do have drawbacks in terms of desired features, but one of them isn't a propensity to go careening off into the weeds chasing some "design" fad.
