This isn't showing as much as I could, but here is the basic rundown of how I did this pic...
1. First I sketched out the setting/background on my tiny lil' drawing pad.
2. Lowered the opacity of the background enough to make it still viewable and then sketched a rough of the character interacting with said background.
3. Went over the sketch with a whiteline sketch for better detail, and also redid a bit of the background to get a better idea as well.
4. Inked over the white lines in Art Rage. The image was 11x14 at this point, and the pen line I didn't make larger than 2 or 3 pixels.
5. In photoshop, I created a layer and did a huge fill of turquoise for the entire body mass, with the background trailing body on it's own layer. Then I locked the pixels of the colour fill and added in some other colours like the underbelly and darker scales on the back, face, arms etc...
(the harness and backpack had it's own layer as well.)
6. Next I moved to the background. I just started blotching it in with a large brush, doing all the dark stuff first, and then touching up with the lights both in the foreground and background. After I added the lights below, I wanted to see what I had in store by adding a highlight layer and dropping some light onto the character.
7. Added in the glowing tattoos, and orange lighting in the back reflecting from the character, and then went over everywhere I thought needed shadows.
8. This step is the final and most fun step in my mind. Basically I add in some hazy highlights and reflections, both to the character and the background and get the details done as much as I can stand. I use a lot of Overlay, both in layers and in brush settings.
When all that is done, I merge it onto one layer and tweak the saturation, colour balance, hue and brightness/contrast until I think it looks alright. And that's about it.
Final product is here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4983207
If there's a desire, I could do a more detailed tutorial, but in all honesty I don't know what the fuck I'm doing.
