This is Ariel and Eric (from Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid) as polyps as they help the other polyps accept their new fates happily.
Tori woke up groggly to the strange environment before her. She seemed to be in a dark cave, which she faintly recognized. As she tried to raise herself up, she couldn't help but notice her head felt heavier than usual. As she came to, she noticed her arms were surprisingly stiff too. Her tail didn't seem to move either.
Finally her eyes began to gain focus again and she looked down. Her eyes then widened, and she screamed loudly. Her body had been transformed into a polyp, with a long green stalk replacing her torso and tail.
How did this happen? She thought; tears welling in her eyes. Suddenly, she heard a gurgling noise coming from a little farther off. Even though the noise was unfamiliar, she was able to piece them together into words.
They said, "Hey, I think she's awake."
Tori looked around to see more, but her eyes were still a little out of focus. Then, without warning, a green polyp popped right from out of the ground in front of her causing her to fall back in surprise. The creature was much taller than her, had scruffy black hair, and was a light shade of green. The features on its face were vaguely male, with a wide mouth, an odd nose, and two gigantic yellow eyes.
The polyp looked at her and gave an expression Tori vaguely recognized as a grin.
"Hi there," it proclaimed. "Welcome to the garden! My name's Eric! What's yours?!"
He inched closer and closer to Tori who felt herself shrinking in fear.
Suddenly, another voice came from nowhere.
"Eric, I think you're scaring her. Let me try talking."
Another polyp came out of the ground, this time behind Tori.
Tori swung around to face the newcomer but was taken aback by what she saw. This polyp was very different from the other, having long brown locks of hair that flowed smoothly in the water, and a deeper shade of green for skin. Her face was calm, with small mouth, and two big yellow eyes that watched Tori motherly.
"Good morning," softly spoke the other polyp. "Are you alright? It's pretty standard for most newcomers to faint after their transformation."
For the first time since waking up, Tori found the urge to speak. The words came out in strange grumbling and gurgling sounds, but to her they seemed to make perfect sense.
"W-Who are you," she stammered.
The female polyp bent slightly to bow, "My name is Ariel."
"Where am I?"
"In the garden."
"What garden?"
"Ursula's garden, of course," said Eric.
"Ur-Ur-Ursula?" Tori was taken aback by the name. Suddenly, the memories came rushing back to her.
"O-OH OH MY GOD, I REMEMBER," She yelled, causing Ariel and Eric to pull back in surprise.
"I remember the deal and everything. I failed to uphold my part of the bargain and she turned me into this. Oh my god." Tori lowered her head listlessly, remembering her failure and the price she had to pay.
It was then she felt the warm body of Ariel wrapping around her in a tight embrace.
"There, there," she whispered. "It'll be alright."
"But I can never be a mermaid again. I'll never see any of my friends of family."
"It's alright. You're not alone, we're all here with you."
"We?"
"Yes, me, Eric, and the others. We're all here for you, and we'll make sure you're never alone. I know it's tough now, but give it time and you'll see being a polyp isn't all that bad. Ursula feeds us every day, and protects us, and as long as we have each other, we're never lonely."
Tori remained silently in thought as Ariel slowly released her. She then motioned her face close to Tori's.
"Come on, I can introduce you to the others if you want. Then you can see how you like it."
For a while, Tori just looked at her, unsure of what really to say. She felt uncertain of how to take this whole new world, but when she looked at Ariel, she felt a calming light coming over her. The more she looked, the more at ease she felt with her situation. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad, if she just gave it a try.
"Ok…," she whispered.
