Drone hives struggle with the idea of sustainablity being a good thing.
Drone hives get a lot of attention by local governments because any drone is certainly a spellfluxed, and that they tend to have more conflict with spellfluxed compared to other wild critters in the manatear.

yeye, definitely a dynamic I am aware of. The whole manatear setting very intentionally has no lasting "bad ends", it mostly has longer term and shorter term situations. Drones can lead to longer end which is why local societies tend to show up and stomp out drone hives because of how many people could be "Missing" within it.
it's a combo of things. Once released it's individual scenario based if they would recover immediately mentally or not. Generally it is a matter of time until they mentally recover unless they trip into starting a new hive that would be self contained and recreate the enforcement. Once out of the hive they can recover their original shape but that takes more effort than just mental recovery. Hans here will be able to recover himself or trip into a new scenario that would then replace the dog drone design.
it'd take energy from the hive to intentionally take the shape away so just discarding him is more effective for them. Also it just enables more problems later for other characters to deal with.
If I was to write a story about it I'd say that the Drone form sticks for 3-7 days because it's a non-baseline power shape because it would normally negate exhaustion and stuff like that.
