MALAKAS Project - Rajah Ringahati
If you wish to know about the MALAKAS Project, go to Timothy Soro's entry here for more info about the project.
Description:
Rajah Ringahati hailed from a small tribe named 'Beshitam' in Eastern Malaysia. His tribe was heavily bound by tradition, where tribesmen would not only arm themselves with kris swords and wooden shields, but also participate the gamelan (ensemble of metal bells) play on several local festivals. Rajah himself was an avid player in both gamelan and swordfighting, with a stern and cynical face. Normally his fellows were living their happy lives, the young tiger had a dark past that left him like that, but the former mistook him for someone taking his lifetime job with serious passion. On the other side of his, he had a passion for arts, especially painting numerous artworks in reflection to Beshitam's culture.
However, Rajah's tribe was slow to accepting new changes, especially in modern times. So for the first time, Rajah was the first required to take it for once. He was tasked to study in the United States, more specifically in California, but the tribe's people in power were so financially cautious in regards to foreign currency and purchases, that they chose a cheaper college for the young tiger. Well, they found one in the city of Santo Tomas, but Rajah would have to take very much time in getting used to the American culture, as he was well-educated from elementary to high school but rather on a local level. None of his tribe had any genuine experience in going outside Malaysia, let alone America or any country in Southeast Asia.
However, they did had a good relationship with someone outside the local level, an actual, highly-educated US expat residing nearby the former. Through the Beshitam's meeting with the said diplomat, the latter agreed to arrange for Rajah's trip to the US in form of a foreign student exchange program, but of course with a permission from the local Malaysian official. Rajah on the other hand, although unsure, felt confident enough to take on his journey to foreign lands, but he also had to endure several years of staying.
Upon arrival to Santo Tomas via San Francisco, he was to set to live with another Malaysian student, Rosalina Rishan Aziz the young civet girl, living in a rural part of the city. Despite her urban background, Rosalina had interest in much more of a diverse culture across Malaysia, in fact wanting to know more about Rajah and his tribe's tradition. Rajah on the other hand wished to learn how things work in California, so as not to cause unwanted attention and embarrassment, lest he would leave a dishonorable stain on the Beshitam. They did have difficulty with each other lasting a week, especially in learning English, but that was for another story.
Rajah still had trouble trying to blend in, even on his first day of college in Santo Tomas, but with his limited knowledge in English, somehow managed to make several friends of his own within his new class, although he made himself a joke to almost the rest. He wasn't initially comfortable with nerdy types until he took a first look at superhero comics, which would inspire him to make fascinating ones on a long run, but not at this moment. He was at least tolerable with athletic types, despite not understanding certain physical activities. Regular types didn't mind him being around but couldn't care much, but leader types saw him as a laggard nuisance, i.e. someone deemed too slow to accept new changes even in the present, but such a flaw wouldn't stop Rajah from simply trying his best. Throughout his college years, Rajah was learning on how to draw comics, with the help of his new nerdy friends. He had made few comics taking several pages each, but his skills were yet to improve.
Four years later, Christopher North, a friend to many of Rajah's classmates, on the other hand saw potential in the young tiger, born with sternness and discipline. A month since the Brisa Creek's invasive attack on the mountain base, Christopher decided to deploy Super Soldiers in guarding the beaver town in order to prevent any fanatical ideas. He had his friend Timothy Soro persuade Rajah into joining the MALAKAS Project, but instead of dismissal after 2-3 months of training, the young tiger would be to join new guards sent to Brisa Creek, where he would guard from one place to another in every hour from 8am to 4pm, daily except Sundays (so as not to expend his weekly attendance in a mosque). Monetary rewards from the project remained unchanged. Rajah was hesistant about the offer, due to still having linguistic issues with his English, nevermind the fact he had to stay in the US for several years, but Timothy, unlike most of his classmates, understood him pretty well and assured him that the project had some Malaysian recruits who could be of great help if needed.
Rajah relented, and starting next week would he begin his training for few months until he became a Super Soldier with a Juggernaut ability. He became so far well-known among many recruits for not only wielding the Kris (or Kalis) sword in battle, but also occasionally strapping his arms with two small gamelan (a small box with only three gong-like bells) in countering blunt and sharp attacks. He was technically not the only recruit with personality of a disciplined warrior, but his armstrap idea was pretty unique. A week after that was his departure to Brisa Creek, a beaver town that was so far undamaged despite letting its invasion force be defeated far away from home. Although many beavers (of all ages) were big and muscular thanks to their previous, temporary leader, not of all them were fanatical against their new non-beaver guards, but there would be some trying to take on foreigners and liberate their town. However, all throughout his training in the mountain base and his station in Brisa Creek, Rajah took some free time drawing comics, slowly perfecting them but hoping one day he would make a truly inspirational one, and not just to his fellow tribesmen or tribeschildren.
