my worst interview faux-pas was when I suggested they delay my promotion for a few months cuz I was pretty busy on a large project and would need to finish the current phase and train a replacement for the rest. Apparently one of the two interviewers was impressed by my assumption that I was getting the position, but the other was disappointed that I didn't want to sabotage a multi-million dollar contract for the role. Whelp... live and learn.
Depending on how accurate the dialog is, I didn't see any reason here for the student to cancel the interview. Personally I think the professor here sounds like a big ol' bitch and is probably training up the student to become another one! So to hell with 'em both if that's the way they deal with people.
the more complicated version has the student not boasting about influence at the start, and misunderstanding my statement of only having down small time tasks for others and large scale work for myself as me having done no exhibitions whatsoever nor of having attempted large projects, and had merely chosen and prepared questions for an alternate interview subject by the time I responded to the statement of the professor not approving with my clarification of my own initial statement. But I feel like I make these too verbose to be paid attention to sometimes. The exchange here is a bit more like how I FELT it went!
