"So, why's it called the Grey Ghost? It's not exactly a stealthy 'mech."
"It's because it's been reported destroyed a dozen times by now. I mean, you'd think getting whacked by a Long Tom would do that, but....well, let's just say they got an unpleasant surprise. That crack by the cockpit? Gauss slug. All those pock-marks? LRM shrapnel. The bigger ones are autocannon fire, and the slashes? Laser fire."
"Someone must not have liked you then."
"A whole lot of someones didn't like my presence, yes. But now they're dead."
In the years Tai- known as "Magnet" by his fellow mechwarriors, due to his tendency to attract incoming fire- had piloted that Stalker, it had been reported as knocked out or destroyed no less than fifteen times. And yet, 'miraculously', every time it would reappear on another battlefield, the fifteen-tube ripple-fire LRM launchers sandblasting away armour by the ton, the six-pack of pulse lasers (four medium, two large) boring a devastating hole through 'mech components with a series of "wub-wub-wub" flashes. The Stalker's 85-ton frame loaded with almost as much armour as it could hope to carry, a whopping sixteen tons, and sixteen double heat sinks helping to keep the 'mech from overheating through all but the most sustained, intense fire. The 'mech left unpainted due to routinely returning from missions with its armour slagged or blasted off nearly entirely, as most foes would wisely (or perhaps unwisely) focus fire on the juggernaught bearing down upon them, before it could carve them apart. He'd even stopped bothering painting kill marks on the 'mech, as it began to get too tedious to reapply them all.
With how ubiquitous the Stalker was, in the Inner Sphere, many pilots seemingly lost their fear of the 'mech...right up until they had to face one down. And like many Stalker pilots, this one was only too glad to remind them why they should be afraid.
Holyshitholyshitholyshit. So fun fact, when I commissioned this, the artist said both "fuck you" and "thank you" for the commission idea. And that it was going to be simultaneously a "bitch" and a "joy" to draw. I know for a fact it's a joy to look at because OH MY GOD the details, the lighting, shading, EVERYTHING. That Battlemech looks like it's been through hell and back, and given my luck in MW5 (with that being my 'mech, essentially), it absolutely has been!

IIRC I had made up the tonnage with a really bloody big engine. Between the weapons, ammo, and heatsinks, I didn't have the slottage for Endo-Steel skeleton or Ferro Fibrous armor. This was also like 5+ years ago, when I had no idea what I was doing building a 'Mech and was just handed the build by my Unit leader.
