No Strings Attached (1/4)
1. There was a weird thing that happened to me today. While I was walking down the road, some guy poked me. Well, I think they were a guy, but I could’ve been wrong. They just had a fedora and a trench coat that had a lapel to hide their face... If it was just a regular poke, it would have been fine, but they poked me with a needle right between my shoulder blades. I tried to reach the area and rub it, but I’ve not been able to do that ever since putting on a lot of weight… Why’d he do that?
2. I felt stiff this morning, and the part of my back the man poked was sore. Possibly tetanus… maybe another disease. It was possible that the guy laced the needle with something. Did tetanus start this fast? I had gotten it once before, and it wasn’t this fast of an onset. Needless to say, I went to the doctor. They gave me a booster, some antibiotics, and told me to keep an eye on the wound, as a physical examination didn’t show any swelling.
3. I woke up today and, much like the day before, I felt stiff, but the pain in my back was gone. Even after doing a few stretches, it almost felt like my body was fighting me, wanting to keep my muscles as tight as possible. I didn’t mind it too much, as the doctor said I may feel stiff from the shot anyway. Guess it got better?
4. I woke up with a start today. I had a nightmare. In it, I was being poked by needles everywhere on my body. It felt like my body was searing with pain… but when I woke up the pain subsided. I had trouble stretching my back, as it was stiff… as per usual. This was probably a new normal I had to get used to, at least for a little while. I didn’t realize being poked like that could be so traumatic. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to make a joke about it with Tyler later.
5. I talked with Tyler today, they seemed rather fixated on my laugh lines. I know I’m fat and all, but why was there such an emphasis on this? Did my face get fatter or something? Was I having an allergic reaction? When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t help but stare at them – they did seem more prominent than I remembered. More side effects from the medicine, maybe?
6. Today was probably the hardest for me to get up out of any day I’d ever known before. My body felt like it wanted to stay in bed. I swore my joints creaked when I flipped myself around and did my attempt at daily stretches. However, when I reached for the ground, my back stopped me. I could usually place my palms flat on the ground without difficulty, but now my back was physically stopping me from doing so. It wasn’t bending – it wanted to stay straight. Urgent Care was closed today. I’ll go tomorrow. What’s another day of waiting gonna do anyway?
7. The doctor was very… unhelpful. I kept mentioning to him that my back was feeling stiff and that I thought something was wrong, but he was insistent that everything was normal. My blood pressure was 125/80, my heartrate was 70. He physically examined my back, seeming to rub a specific spot on it for a good while…… “I think you’re growing normally,” he said. “Of course, werewolves tend to be a bit of an oddity anyway. If you’re worried, try using a back roller to loosen up your muscles!”
“But… I can’t bend my back! I could do it a few days ago.” I retorted.
“Like I said, it’s perfectly normal for you. If there’s something stopping you, it’s probably psychological.”
8. The odd sensation of stiffness I’d had all last week vanished today. I couldn’t explain it, but it all felt so… normal now. Maybe the doctor was right? I got out of bed with ease and tried to do my stretches, but I could bend over even less than yesterday. Was I just getting older? I went to the mirror to see if my laugh lines got worse, and to my chagrin, they did. They were so deep at this point I could have sworn they were digging into my skull, but I was just imagining things. Doctor did say my problems were psychological.
9. My ears became stiff today. It was hard to explain, but most people don’t know what it’s like to have the extreme amount of muscles in the ear. I couldn’t bend them properly, and when I poked them, they had the malleability of a thin, rubber eraser. I also felt an itch on my neck and back that was becoming bothersome. It felt like a very aggressive mosquito had bit me where I’d been poked. I wanted to itch it… but again, I’m too fat – not to mention I’m not even able to touch my toes. Flexibility never was my strong suit.
10. Sarah was overly friendly today. I don’t mind when people are friendly, but she was really into patting my head and pinching my cheeks. She kept calling me, “the cutest little squish doll I had ever seen”. This was something I got a lot, but the extent of it was… uncomfortable. I did get more hugs than usual, which was a plus!
