Family Movie Night (Ceeb Memorial)
So here it is...I'm not....entirely happy with it...but that's always the case with my work, especially one that carries with it such an emotional weight to it.
When Ceeb
passed...I knew I had to do something to honor him in terms of artwork. naturally, my first thoughts were of Desmond, and something stereotypically saccharine, such as my OC Misfit hugging an angel of Des, or something featuring him appearing angelic. But the more I thought of it, the more I felt like Ceeb would have hated that. It's the kind of thing he would have made fun of mercilessly. So I gave it more thought and then I remembered that at the start of Summer Ceeb had laid the groundwork for a warm fuzzy Kahnso family pic commission that he hoped he'd be able to pay for by the fall. For those of you familiar with Kahnso, or rather his alt timeline series of fics where Kahnso settles down with Veronica and she somewhat tames the wild and violent drug-addicted rocker, this pic was meant to revisit that world as he was really happy with my other entries in that series.
He was working on a new chapter for it around the time he laid out the commission specs. Unfortunately, that is lost to his PC as the whole thing is locked behind passwords he neglected to write down.
So while not a pic of Desmond, fulfilling this last commission seemed like the best way to honor Ceeb, especially due to the subject matter. A family at peace, enjoying a nice quiet movie night together with a thunderstorm rumbling softly outside.
When outlining ideas, Ceeb had expressed having Alex, Kahnso and Veronica's daughter, attempting to appear stoic and 'grown-up' despite having a fear of thunderstorms, so While she'd be splayed somewhere on the couch, at least half of her body would be sidled up to Mom and Dad as a stealth attempt to seek comfort. I ended up making this pic a bit later in the night, when Alex is totally conked out, splayed across both parents' laps, while the pair share a sort of affectionate and loving glance. Loving each other, and loving their daughter. It's a very quiet, warm family moment that made my heart melt when Ceeb initially described it, and even more so now that I've drawn it despite still having misgivings about my art style and overall improvement.
I love you Ceeb...I don't know if you can see this, but I hope you can...I'll always miss you my brother...
