If this one is a descendant maybe he´s not at the same level of physical strenght as the original Guts.... or if he is Guts indeed, maybe after setling down and living a more relaxed existence made him lose some of the exceptional athletic skills he possesed hundreds of years ago >XD, or maybe those aren´t orgdinary kids after all >XD
It would be even more comical if the shovel were forged from the actual Dragonslayer... Since it actually would be far more effective than the "Hunk of Raw Iron" that was Dragonslayer...
By the way, Shovels are actually considered "Too Brutal to be used as Weapons" in the Rules of Warfare.
