Honestly as the fight begins in earnest I am able to fully appreciate just how poorly trained these pokemon are, at least when it comes to more freeform fighting. They were clearly beating those trainers so in a battle with accepted rules they were clearly doing well. But this isn’t a trainer battle. As far as everything else is concerned Maria and I are wild pokemon and wild pokemon don’t tend to respect turn order. There are no rules here beyond only one pokemon per trainer. And technically I have only one pokemon out as well so I guess I’m following that rule as well. But they have no situational awareness. They only see their designated target and no regard towards where anyone else is. I’m able to make use of this by not only getting the Polytoed to attack his ally by mistake but both Maria and I are able to hit targets squarely in the back simply because that particular pokemon wasn’t paying attention to us. But it’s way too early to get our hopes up. Neither of us are tough enough that we can just power through. We have to beat them through superior training and strategy. And anything we can do that complicates things for them is good for us.

((And for the record, no one actually hit the Graveler yet, he just tripped over the scyt-- I mean, fell down some stairs. Yeah, that's totally less embarrassing to have happen in the middle of a fight. He totally just fell down a flight of stairs in the middle of this open field and that's why he's face first into the dirt. And the scyther just wanted to join him in enjoying the smell of grass. That or stop, drop and roll. either works.))
