always kind of bums me out that Yokai watch was a bit of a flash in the pan. I supernatural spooky stuff and all the designs of the yokai where fun, and the Merican Yokai where a hoot. Oh well

"Yo-Kai Watch" was pretty idiosyncratically Japanese, but for a hot second in its native Japan that thing was eating "Pokemon's" lunch.
But yeah... Lady Longnek here is a Rokurokubi... and she's pretty WYSIWYG. A woman with a freakishly-long, telescoping serpent-neck. I also like her fellow "Classic Yo-Kai" Boyclops... AKA the Hitotsume-Kozo or "One-Eyed Child." Also fairly straightforward... a cyclopean little boy known for playing childish pranks.

I think what might've helped would be if the gaming press and ads for the games hadn't made it out to be a Pokemon knockoff to anyone uninitiated, or worse, asserted that "Yo, look dudes, this is it, the thing that's gonna kill Pokemon in its tracks!" because they noticed it was gaining popularity in Japan and somehow thought this equated to "literally about to overthrow and put an end to a still-popular multi-billion-dollar multimedia franchise that's thrived since 1996".
