I liked him as a kid, for some reason, but found him creepy. As an adult, I immediately picture myself smashing him with a holy water-blessed crowbar on sight.
That being said, one of the newer books features a cover with Slappy peering from under some kid's bed. Lord, that image was more unsettling than it should have been.
