The list of Ardal's conquests was more vast and expansive than many could claim, but few of them did he ever keep at his side for long. Malena was the exception to this, his constant companion who provided any comfort he wished, whenever he wanted or needed it. He was known to give her gifts in thanks on occasion, but sometimes she would surprise him with a gift of her own, one more special than anything else. The prospect of fatherhood had never appealed to the devilish black bull, but the sheer happiness she displayed as she stood before him with that heavy, gravid belly was infectious.
