In the field of Saryan psi-tech, few are as knowledgeable as the esteemed Dr. Aileas Blair. Of special interest to Dr. Blair are the Saratnaas, the psychoconductive crystalline stones that merge into the bodies of psychic-capable hosts and bestow new powers upon them. Being bonded to one such artifact herself and bestowed with the power of shadow manipulation as a result, she knew better than most alive the potential growth and danger these ancient devices could unleash if not properly understood. For this exact purpose, Dr. Blair would gather three young psychics, each one which had been in contact with a Saratnaa previously.
The first was Arashi Saigo, a shrine maiden from Shizuoka. Beneath her family’s ancestral shrine was a long-forgotten complex of Saryan ruins that, as of this report, have yet to be fully explored. Upon stumbling upon it by accident, she found herself merged with the AS-GLA artifact and gaining the power of ice. After discovering the incident on the news, Aileas’s superior, Dr. Xenakis, sought out the site and referred the young miko to her study.
The second to join was Suki Latsis of Ioannina. Her mother represented Japan in the Spartakiad Games with great honor and was one of the greatest fighters of her era. It wasn’t until well after Himawari’s unfortunate passing that Suki would begin to suspect that her mother’s treasured family heirloom, the so-called Phoenix Medallion, was more than a simple jewel. Wearing it for extended periods of time filled her mind with fuzzy visions of a time long past, and there were days she swore it was actively trying to claw its way inside her somehow. It was only after a visit from Dr. Blair that she learned the truth; Himawari’s treasured medallion was the Saratnaa now classified as AS-ING, from which she willingly allowed it to be absorbed into her body and be granted the power of flames.
The third and last subject acquired was something of a two-part procedure. The AS-FLG Saratnaa was recovered from the excavation site beneath the Shurayuki Shrine where Arashi’s powers were first awakened. Some months later the second half of the equation entered in the form of a Stockholm biker by the name of Tempest Axelholt. Having been co-opted after unintentionally crossing paths with the KGB, her own budding psychic powers gave her a new lease on life. And after her infusion with the stone, the young rider became her namesake; a walking conduit of lightning.
The girls all displayed potential, and through the various research ventures they formed a bond as tight as sisters. But because of their value to research, Dr. Blair often kept them in cryogenic suspension for preservation. Even as they would sleep, the Saratnaas would continue to acclimate themselves to their new hosts, as if slowly adjusting their forms from within to work better in tandem.
Such a feature is not unheard of with Asura relics. But the extent to which they can reshape a Terran’s physique? Only speculation is available.
For now, Aileas watches her charges intently, hoping to arrive one step closer to the answer…
