Pizza is the ultimate food, and anyone who says otherwise is objectively wrong. With that out of the way, here's a nice easy one I made recently that should appeal to a wide audience, as long as you're not lactose intolerant, a cat or a little Japanese child, and the steps you can take to make it yourself!
Ingredients:
- 300g of premade pizza dough (I bought a 600g bag of dough, so I just cut the dough mound in the middle to get approximately the amount I needed)
- 1 213ml can of pizza sauce
- 1 red onion
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 270g brick of pizza mozzarella
- 2 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 tsp of garlic powder
- 1 tsp of dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp of dried basil
- Balsamic vinegar
- Flour (for the countertop and your hands when working with the dough)
Recipe:
1. Lightly dust the counter space you'll be using with a handful of flour, and make sure both hands have a decent flour coating on them too.
2. Carefully press, knead and stretch the dough into a flat circle about half a centimetre thick, making sure it's very slightly thicker around the edge. Be patient with it, as pizza dough is notoriously springy and you also don't want it to tear or become too dry.
3. Stretch and press the dough out over a pizza pan to get it to its final shape and size. With that, the difficult part is over.
4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
5. Spread the olive oil over the dough and let it soak in while you prepare the toppings.
6. Shred as much of the mozzarella as possible into a bowl with a grater.
7. Cut some thin slices from the onion, remove the outermost layer and cut the slices into small pieces.
8. Cut a slice out of the middle of the pepper and remove the core and seeds, then cut the slice into quarters and the quarters into small pieces.
9. Spread the sauce over the dough, leaving about 1 inch uncovered around the edge. I used most of the can, but if you want your pizza a little less saucy or just want to have enough sauce left to make a second pizza, that's perfectly fine.
10. Add a generous layer of cheese, then distribute the onion and pepper pieces over it, and finish with more cheese.
12. Sprinkle the garlic powder, oregano and basil evenly over the pizza.
13. Place the pizza in the oven and bake for 20-30 minutes, depending on how crispy you want the pizza's crust to be. Check on it without removing it from the oven after 20 minutes, and if it's still a bit undercooked or not quite done to your liking, give it some extra time, keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn't overcook.
14. Take the pizza out of the oven, place it on the counter and evenly drizzle a couple capfuls of vinegar over it.
15. Let the finished pizza stand for a minute or two before slicing and serving.
And there you have it, a simple and splendid, crispy and delicious homemade pizza to share with your friends or family, or to feast on by yourself if that was your goal! Who am I to judge, I eat at least one whole pizza by myself every month or so. Either way, I hope it turns out well and you enjoy it! :3
With this completed, I've also checked off the Foodons list entry that quite possibly means the most to me: Entry #13, Slice, the big spooky star of the first Fighting Foodons episode I ever saw, made from a pizza just like this one!
