Why do I get the impression that Sonia equates mastery to power?

I mean controling explosive use of Hadalen might be impressive in a Bay sort of way. But with what we've seen of Fen, Vix and Lamb using it, it can do so much more.

It's hard to tell if she's being 100% genuine or setting them up for a hubris fall. Maybe a bit of both. The offer is perhaps genuine, but I have my suspicions on if she actually believes and of them will "impress" her, as usually the ones who openly boast about possessing mastery without any form of training are the ones who least know how little they actually know.

I'm hoping Sonia gets a reality check without getting a slap in the face, especially since Fen called on her to go first.

Best way to be able to help someone focus up and find a new goal to work towards. Fen makes a fantastic teacher in such a simple way.

Hey, the most likely person to hurt the master is the new student who doesn't realize how little control they have, so their master uses too little strength to spar with first, so Sonia may get a decent shot in, once, and then Fen will go "Okay, here's the counter."

What are the top 5 strongest in the academy?
Obviously Mis is and always will be at the top.
Lamb and Jennifer are probably there as well, as the Academy’s enforcers.
Fen has a lot of power and raw talent, and has come a long way in building her skills, but not sure if she’s in top 5 yet… depends on who else there is.
I think Vix is more researcher than fighter.
And Meeka, while no pushover, is more healer fighter.

Lotsa people here wanting the cat to end up on her ass because of her, "inflated," ego. But, honestly? How old is Sonia? She seems to fit the moody teen stereotype. Yeah, she has a bit of an inflated ego, but it's also easily toppled. On the previous page, she was flexing in one frame, but then we pretty quickly saw a vulnerable side to her. She aknowleged she fucked up, even if she was a tad indignant in doing so. She also has a point. She should get a say in what happens to her. I mean, it's not like a toddler being told to eat their vegetables. She was dropped on the side of a mountain. It seems apparent that Sonia comes from some kind of priviledge. I can't help but wonder if her false confidence and arrogance are a result of her trying to meet her parents' expectations, but rarely succeeding. I'm probly projecting a bit, but you've seen this before. Some of the most over confident people, are the most insecure, and use their over confidence to seek validation.

I think Fen handled this well. She got past Sonia's defenses, and in those last two pannels I think we see Sonia for who she really is. Someone who is sensative, but also I think we see Sonia's real confidence. Her expression seems more self assured, rather than her previous bratty demeanor. To that extent, I hope she does well.

Some peoples' comments regarding Sonia kind of bothered me a bit. It seems people want her to face some retribution for having an inflated ego. At the same time, people wanting Fen to curb stomp Sonia makes me wonder if there's a fondness for hierarchies. I.e. Fen's the master, Sonia's the student, who stepped out of line, and therefore must be punished. But, if Fen does this, then how is she any different from Sonia's parents who pulled the, "You're the kid, I'm the adult," card, before dropping her off on a mountain? I can't imagine Sonia would feel curious about, or want to engage with her new living arrangements, if her welcome was an older student or teacher using her as a punching bag.

This should be interesting.

Something tells me, she's going to be surprisingly powerful, and Fen's gonna have her paws full because she'll lake finesse and practice but, raw power is going to be through the roof

Fen's not just flippantly offering to move them up to the advanced classes if they prove themselves. She's the prime example of the fact that there's true prodigies out there that can handle the fast track. (Granted, Fen's the daughter of the literal creator of the Hadalen sphere, but still.)
