Gojoseon merchant and Xiongnu noblewomen, 3~2nd century BCE
Gojoseon (고조선) was the first Korean kingdom. They formed an alliance with nomadic people Xiongnu to fight against Han dynasty China. When Emperor Wu of Han conquered Gojoseon in 108 BCE, they self-proclaimed that it was like 'killing Xiongnu's right-hand man (liberal translation from "Book of Han" written in 111 AD)'. However, their war against Xiongnu was less successful and dragged on for hundreds of years.
