The hyena tribes is the society Taz hails from. A Matriarchal society where the females are bigger than the males. The men do the physical labour and teach the children how to do chores that need to be done or become diplomats as women train as warriors or leaders of various types. The tribes are mostly agricultural and the men will raise snails as a source of protein and will often create dyes from the shells of the snails. Some tribes and families pride themselves on their snail stock, their shells full of vibrant and rare colours, seeked by empires from across the world and throughout centuries.

Taz felt frustrated by the restrictions of the hyena tribe as men were labourers and nor scholars so he could not learn about the natural world without being persecuted so he feld to persue his passion
