After having accomplished his objective by opening the first door and while waiting to locate the clues leading to the second key, Mesmero decided to keep Jean, Rogue and Kitty as hostages so that they could be rescued soon, he had to resort to power-inhibitor necklaces to prevent them from escaping and as a precaution, they were separated in different rooms of his lair located in Nepal.
Kitty is furious to have been reduced to this state of impotence like a human and now realizes what the kidnapped girls can feel in the anime series she saw in her childhood.
