An artificial tilt shift effect opportunity came up when I saw a couple fire trucks pull onto my DC apartments street. Ran to the roof and got as far at an angle from them as I could. Not quite far enough for the effect to really work as it should, but still not a bad shot =)
What I did: basic tweaks with an overhanded boost in saturation for the toy like feel. Made a quick mask with a mirrored gradient and applied a lens blur. Boom! Fake tilt shift.
Dont worry, no one was harmed in the making of this shot. I think it was a false alarm.

I think you'll get a kick out of this, it really trips me out how much tiltshifting can make something look like a minature.

Yea, photoshop is a great tool. I know a lot of photographers who really dont like editing their shots. The way I see it, Im merely taking advantage of the tools available to me. Why build a house with wooden pegs and wooden hammers when you can use nails and nail guns? =P
Yet those same people wouldn't think twice about editing in the darkroom. I think they are full of it. We live in a digital camera age, so we use digital darkroom tools (PS). If the great photographers from the past who used a lot of darkroom techniques were alive today, and had digital camera's, I guarantee they would be using PS or something similar. Anyone who claims to like high contrast black and white photography and has a DSLR, would be lying to you if they told you they didn't like or use PS. That's how you make color shots into those. Nose in the air (so called professional) photographers who gripe about this are such hypocrites today.
By the way, good job. Before I read the description,, I thought this was a model layout being shot close in with a non macro lens.
