For the longest time in Engrievion's history, there was no way to tell who truly stood as ruler. For a time, it was the House of the Scorpion, a ruthless military-focused kingdom boasting the deadliest, most fearsome army to ever grace the old system. Though at that exact time others believed the House of the Fox, the Scorpion's direct rival, were the destined rulers of the land. The Houses of the Rhino, Dove, and Barracuda obviously each believed themselves to be the rightful heirs to the world's throne, as all of the royal houses believed in equal arrogance (Fox and Scorpion included). Yet as these sides squabbled and maimed each other, none paid much heed to a group of four smaller houses deciding to completely twist the ways of warfare in ways never before seen. Before anyone had time to realize what was transpiring beyond their control, blazing steel rained down upon the warring armies, as the houses of the Lamb, Bison, Stallion, and Stag declared themselves Engrievion's new Empire.
For 200 years since their victory, the iron walls of the Empire have stood, glinting proudly in the sunlight, for none dared to damage them. As the main dominant power in the nation, The Empire was what all of Engrievion- (Barring the wild magic, the bandit gangs, the crazy cults, the crazy undead cults, the mutants, the undead, the outsiders, the fauna, the flora, traitors, and the old royal houses who won't take the fucking hint)-obeyed without question, as to challenge the empire would be certain death by....like, a shit ton of guns and swords and other hi-tech bullshit. That's not to say the empire's cruel though. It tends to be apathetic sure, but ultimately it gives the people living under its rule lives that are....well decent enough.
There is no question that the Empire possesses the most advanced technology in the nation though, thanks to the House of the Stallion's grand network of factories known simply as "The Forge.". The Forge is the Empire's trump card, the key to their success, the bread to their butter, the cu-y'know what you get the idea. Produced in the ice cold factories are not only the trademark firearms, blades, firearms with blades and blades with firearms all Empire knights and soldiers wield, but it is also the main production area of the infamous "Gear Sentries", a wide range of automatons designed to assist Empire troops in battle and enforce the Empire's law, something the intimidating machines do with terrifying efficiency. Even when an Empire citizen loses a limb, it is no bother to them, because for the right prices they can just get a fully functional replacement prosthetic limb that is usually much better than the limb they just lost. Once, a humongous scaled beast with leathery wings and flaming breath roared and swooped to attack the capital directly. Where other kingdoms would panic and be torn asunder, The Empire simply shrugged its shoulders, bellowed forth an "Alright, bet", and ripped the boastful pest to pieces with the booms of gigantic cannons designed specially to keep shit like that off their lawn. It is thanks to the Forge's machines and staggering advancements in technology that the Empire has ruled for as long as it has, as not many dangers of the world have any way of countering their big guns outside of just taking some of them, and even then it just proves the Empire's superiority.
As for the rest of the regions with the capital's territory, there is the absolutely frigid region of "Winterbrace", home of the Winterbrace Cage, a massive prison complex designed to house the worst Engrievion has to offer. Whereas the Forge and the Empire's construction/engineering divisions is mainly the work of the Stallion, the house of the Bison is in charge of law and enforcement of law, and therefore specializes in capturing dangerous entities or would be chaos-bringers and tossing them behind bars, reinforced electrical bars.
To the direct west is an area known as the Omenwood. Engrievion has very cold tundra climates, but its main biomes is forests, jungles and plains, with the forests and jungles in particular being....aggressive? Nah probably "really fucking unhinged" is a better description. The Omenwood however is the most docile of these forests, as if the wild magic within it is greatly intimidated by being in such close proximity to the invincible capital, which it very well should be. It is called the Omenwood mainly because it sets an example for what Engreivion's forests could contain, an "Omen" to warn those who stray too far from the safety of the Empire's grasp. It makes a really good training ground for adventurers though.
Down in the southwest region lies a minor royal house known as the House of the Crow, AKA the "Science guild", a company that directly employ the empire's scientists and doctors, complete with avian themed uniforms, calling themselves "Plague Doctors". The Crow....erm....well it's not exactly entirely merged with the Empire like the rest of the houses within its control, hell its animal doesn't match the empire's "Hooved animal" theme at all, which is a rather noticeable indication that they may not be very trustworthy. They try a concerning amount to do everything the other sections of the Empire do, hold prisoners like the bison, preach faith in science like the lamb, train a private security force like the Stag, and most notably conduct research and advances in technology just like the Stallion, albeit in a more secretive, probably less ethical way. In fact, they seem to possess an odd one-sided grudge against the Forge for reasons they never answer. Perhaps they are just jealous.
Southeast of the capital is but a single gigantic temple, under the control of the House of the Lamb, the meekest and most innocent of the four houses, which makes the Empire all the more determined to protect it. The Lamb is a clergy focused house, dedicating their efforts to inspiring the masses with the guidance of the Golem, the spirit of Ambition, a deity that represents Humanity's ingenuity, their creativity, their determination, and their ability to choose their own destiny no matter how much outside forces try to stop them. The Lamb's goal is to bring hope to the people of Engrievion, to show that everyone in this desolate, unforgiving world has a purpose, has a reason to live, for it is the Golem's will that Humanity disobeys their nature and laughs in the face of death.
Directly east are the twin areas known as Steelwater and Silverwater, a coastal region not controlled by a single house, but rather has all four contributing to it in some regard. Steelwater and Silverwater, despite their similarities, are very different areas. Steelwater is a purely industrial shipyard used by the Forge and the Capital to house, repair, and construct the Empire's naval forces and other seafaring vessels. Rumor has it that Forge one day intends to bring transport out from the sea, and into to sky, however the hell that's gonna work. In contrast, Silverwater is a both a civilian and a government trading region protected by the Bison and encouraged by the lamb, bringing in stockpiles of fish, water, minerals, and even travelers and trade from far away lands. Engrievion hasn't been able to make full contact with any government outside of the nation just yet, but they're optimistic that they'll get there one day....maybe.
Additionally, as you may be able to notice, patrolling these waters is a gargantuan metal warship known as the Halberd, a flagship galleon designed to lead defence operations in the Empire's waters should anyone dare to bring their vastly inferior wooden boats too close to restricted areas.
That of course leaves the dead center, the capital, the house of the Stag. The Stag mainly control everything the other houses' don't, that being military, economics, and of course, politics, for while the houses agree that they are all part of the Empire, the Stag is the strongest out of the four, and the head patriarch is in turn made the Emperor. Said Emperor and his palace reside at the tip of the Capitial, which as you can see is in an absolute colossus of a city bristling with weapons and buildings, millions upon millions of humans and machines residing within its indestructible walls, and that's not mentioning the extra couple millions of soldiers, knights and infantry ready to fight like hell should anyone be foolish enough to insult the Emperor's will. Not that anyone would get to that stage though, for not only are the walls the size of mountains, not only do those walls have building sized guns swiveling around on them, but the capital also features a magical defensive forcefield, just in case.
Engrievion is an unforgiving world after all, so why should its residents be forgiving to it? If it wants to make a joke out of humanity, it's only fair humanity make better jokes back.
Threaten the lamb, and be shamed by its glory.
Enrage the Bison, and be crushed by its march.
Insult the Stallion, and be humiliated by its steel.
Underestimate the Stag, and be impaled by its blades.
Be it the traitor, the crook, the monster, or even death itself,
The iron walls will stand, the guns will find their targets, and the people will laugh.
None shall halt The Empire
Made this myself funnily enough, on Inkarnate, which may be why it looks kinda shit. But hey, now you see why most of the art I have here is commission work, my artistic talents are built for narratives mediums, not exactly visuals, but even then I'd say it looks pretty decent.
This will be the first of the "Maps" of my Black comedy Dark Fantasy setting of Engrievion, and hopefully the start of me fully fleshing out Engrievion's lore with maps, tf pieces, character pictures, and maybe actual stories in the near future. Now, by "Black comedy dark fantasy", I mean that the idea of Engrievion is that it's an insanely dingy world that really sucks to live in, filled with Fromsoft soulslike levels of "life is pain" atmosphere. One of the core concepts is that Nature is the bad guy in this setting, (which is ironic because I mainly crafted this setting just to have animal tf pictures on a furry website but shush.), which means that literally everything in the world wants to destroy humanity and their civilization, like random magical monsters, intense storms, and most notably at this stage, the Mutation, which is quite literally just a reworked Lycanthropy curse made much more flexible in terms of what it can turn people into. It's a strange twist on most environmental stories where industrialization, order and technological advancement are seen as good, heroic things, whilst the spread of chaotic wildlife is the villian, though. I do intend to have to not have it black and white of course, the human side is going to be filled to the brim with corruption and political betrayal, while nature's side will have a few peaceful and lovable characters, which includes Minerva Talos, that plague doctor character I created that set this whole thing off, as you may know from here: (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48436089/). And, as you've perhaps seen with this submission of my Lich Priest Caleb Cain: (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48986961/), there is a third faction at play in Engrievion that works directly against both humanity and nature, a Death faction that houses basically all of the typical "undead shit" a fantasy setting would usually have, and they're slightly less sympathetic than the nature faction since they wanna just kill everything.
But, the reason that it's a comedy is that everyone in this setting is just like: "*Sigh* ...fucking mondays". They are so used to all of the horrific shit around them that they just accept it as another aspect of their shitty lives and go about their business. I don't exactly know for sure how I'll be able to...y'know make good comedy out of this, but I'm optimistic....somewhat.
The whole thing takes some inspiration from numerous fantasy settings, including the Witcher franchise, Warhammer fantasy, a teeeeny bit of game of thrones, Fromsoft's fantasy games, and even a bit from a children's book franchise called Beast Quest, which is something FA and perhaps the internet is fucking sleeping on with how good some of its artwork and character designs can be sometimes, even if the books themselves have really shit writing, but that's an essay for another day. This is also mainly a human setting too, there's not gonna be any tolkien races like orcs, Dwarves, or Elves since I just don't think they fit, plus the other two factions are also just humans in different forms, I.e. werewolves or zombies. There are robots though, and cyborgs, and maybe even mech suits, all of which in a steampunk/dieselpunk style of course, so there's also that to look forward too. Machines are perhaps my favorite things in fiction and in real life, so of course the main character faction would be mainly centered around them.
Magic is also going to be an odd thing, it is going to exist in Engrievion, but in the region of Engrievion itself it'll mainly be "wild magic", which directly creates the mutants and undead and all the other malarky, few Empire locals know how to use it properly, so at the moment I don't know how to utilize magic in this setting. Oh, but that brings up a good point: Engrievion isn't the entire world, rather just a really big nation of a really big world. Some characters will be travelers from outside of Engrievion, from regions that don't have violently hostile nature and more controllable magic, like for instance one of the main characters hails from a land specializing in blood magic. I mean, just because those other regions may be nicer than Engrievion doesn't mean they don't also suck to live in.
All of this is just me dumping my ideas and plans for the future of this project of mine, a project that is really just something I can use to make some of the art pieces I commission make sense, so literally it's just an excuse for me to commission pieces of thicc sexy werecreature paws bursting out of footwear, which on FA isn't really something that needs an excuse but screw it I enjoy extra context to things. However, this is a project I'm rather proud of really, I'm hopeful that I can make this into a really well fleshed out and engaging world, though I'm not entirely sure how I'll pull it off. Only time will tell really, let's just hope the spirit of Ambition hath given me thine blessing.
