I was a fan of Metal Men back in the early to mid 1970s, reading the original issues. Simple minded, teenage me figured if Doctor Magnus didn't want Platinum...

Even as a little kid i thought Metal Men was dreadfully stupid. Simonson debuted at DC with "Manhunter" and a lot of artists stood up on their hind legs and went "Ooooooh !!!" The he did his MM issues with wild visual abstractions and artistic sound-fx, etc and he became an established-innovator (oxymoron). Over the years i think he's done some good work and other stuff that was phoned-in over a bad connection.

Y'know, 's'funny, but the way some fans ooohhh and aaahhh over Steve Ditko, for some reason most of his work didn't impress me. I kinda felt the same way about him. He had the last laugh on a lot of people though; living to 90 is a darned good run.

ah, cool! I love the Metal Men, I mean how can you go wrong with a bunch of stretchy, shape-shifting battle robots? The book even tried to be kinda-sorta educational, even though from what I remember it tended to just repeat the same handful of facts about the metals' properties like every other issue. What I found most unusual was their habit of continually getting destroyed and repaired. Metal Men was one of those rare comics where the cover doesn't lie when it shows the heroes being killed xD

I must say I like your portrayal of Doc here: a scientific genius with a brutish physique!
