Figured I'd upload this here just for the hell of it. I recently rediscovered my interest in anatomy and paleontology and started leaning into it really hard (and throwing money at it)
Finally got a sort of bucket-list item from bone clones, a cast of a Smilodon skull c: It's cast from a fossil found at the La Brea tar pits & it's BIG. It's amazing how much detail can still be seen, & so far it's been a really useful tool to help me understand and visualize some of the things I've been reading about these fossils.
The little skull in the foreground is from a red fox, picked up from my local curio shop. I love all the things we can learn about an animal from looking at its remains; like this fox, who was most likely female, and had bone disease affecting the right side of her jaw. It looks like it caused the right canine to shift and get worn down more quickly; it's significantly more worn than the left, and appears to sit higher in comparison.
I'm really hoping to get myself in a position where I can learn more about this stuff. Biology & paleontology have been lifelong interests of mine but something finally clicked and now I'm really interested in the "boring" stuff like all the little details of anatomy.
Side note, I'm also really hoping to get rid of this godawful paint color in the background soon lol
