This is an approximate diagram of the internal body & shell structure of the single-celled organisms belonging under the order Spumellaria, radiolarians with a typically radial shell structure as compared to the bilateral Nasselaria. These organisms have been known since the devonian period and have contributed to the formation of rocks, sediments and soils, including the crystal radiolarite.
