There's a whole section in the federal code regarding the flag that has been largely ignored for years.

"The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery." - 4 U.S.C. Sec. 8(d)

I'd say "Our flag is special," but I know it'd be futile to try to carry this any further, much less drag the character's actual owner into it.

It is special, that's why some folks choose to wear the image of the flag on a hat or a shirt.
I don't know whether I agree with it or not, but I am well aware of the federal code. Some would argue using an actual flag as clothing would be the issue.
I usually look at it as 'what does the Constitution say?' and then go from there. :)

im pretty sure the code is talking about actual flags, like a flag you'd hoist down from a public building and not referring to american flag themed clothing and iconography.
