Infinity Quest: Pioneer Class (redux)
Infinity Quest is an original work of mine I've been working on and developing for the last 18 years now! If you'd like to read the first book in the series, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Quest-Episode-Trial-Fire/dp/B09NV5NYH7/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1640622896&sr=1-1
And of course, where would a cool sci fi setting be without starships?
Bio:
The Pioneer Class Cruiser is one of the mighty vessels making up the backbone of Humanity's Navy: the E.C.C (Earth and Colony Command). Acting as the premier exploration vessel, and protector of Earth and her territories, the Pioneers are the pinnacle of human engineering; replacing the older Conestoga Class Cruisers in patrol duties, deep space exploration and research, and gallantly charging headlong into harm's way. As is often the case, energy is the name of the game in these naval behemoths, opting to limit the use of artificial gravity in favor of rotating crew domes and engineering compartments in order to spare more power for their defenses and firepower. While humanity has cracked the key to faster than light travel, as many other species have, the energy required is no small order, ensuring that the design bureau has made every last volt count, and learned every lesson they could from the Conestoga Classes.
The forward main guns use massive magnetically accelerated explosive shells capable of more than standing up to the significantly more advanced vessels of the various unaligned species outside of the UCASC, should they ever run afoul of each other. Each smaller RAIL System, located in small armored slats along the hull, is powered by a miniature FTL Engine, capable of generating strong enough magnetic forces to rival smaller naval vehicles' main guns, and in the event of an emergency, these cores can be used as a replacement Drive Core long enough to allow a Pioneer to limp home, if needed. While trailing in the Pan-Galactic Standard, humanity is still an able bodied contender, capable of protecting itself, and in form with ancient Earth's ideals and practice, rendering aid to any who sound the call.
At 600 Meters in length, a crew of 1400 Officers, and sporting a comfortable cruising speed of Drive Factor 7, with three hangars, an emergency release of the vessel's Main Rotor allowing the Engine Compartment to break away as an Emergency vehicle, an enormous selection of probes, auxiliary craft, sensor suites, hospitals, research facilities, and diverse weapon systems, paired with an easily refurnished and refit modular design, the Pioneer comfortably sits within the UCASC Council's imposed Battle Power (BP) limit for each species and their stellar defenses forces, with room to spare as the design board continually improves the Pioneers and Conestogas.
In true E.C.C Fashion, the Pioneer class upholds the naming conventions of their Battleships/Heavy Cruisers, which are named after famous composers such as Bach, Mozart, Chopin, etc, with each modern class named after types of Wagon, while earlier models pertained to exploration, keeping humanity from forgetting its curious and adventurous spirit. Thus far the linage has progress as listed below.
• Pioneer (current)
• Conestoga (previous)
• Vardo, Telega, Tachanka (obsolete)
• Surrey, Charabanc, Frontier
• Chariot
• Nomad, Wayfarer, and Traveler (earliest)
There are currently 28 Pioneers in active service, with another batch of 8 planned and/or beginning construction by next year, increased by rush order from the original 4. Civilian markets are proposed to see the first Pioneer enter decommissioning-to-auction within 130 years, pending life-expectancy increases from future and proposed upgrades.

MY FRIEND, I HAVE BEEN STUDYING ARTIFICIAL GRAVITY INCREDIBLY INTENSE FOR THE LAST WEEK! I AM THE GUY TO HELP WITH THAT!! lol Also thank you! I'm very glad that you enjoyed the design! lol And while an Ark potentially might be a role that a Pioneer could be converted or outfitted for, they're pretty dedicated Battleships and Military Patrol/Exploration craft.
I remember watching the science channel some years ago, I think a few scientists at the NASA JPL created artificial gravity by using a rotating sphere and using liquid sodium. They were able to make a small magnetic field. Sadly though my teacher deterred me from doing that and making the project about the lame ass Mars rovers.
I’ve tried to think of ways how artificial gravity would work equally throughout the ship. From ionized water to copper coils but I’m not sure how it would all work though.
And no problem! ^^ I thought that’s what large space ship were called that can house hundred of thousands of people at a time. Didn’t know there was a difference.

lol that's a very dull and uninspiring teacher! I would think if you have a student expressing that kind of interest in science, you'd encourage them! I bet they thought you were making it up, or that it was some kind of conspiracy thing and just wasn't interested in entertaining the idea. I had actually watched a piece about that experiment recently! Although, as I recall, they never managed to make a magnetic field, but they could manipulate a weak field by introducing it to the experiment. They were trying to recreate the Earth's natural field on a smaller scale using that sodium core. If it's still a topic of interest to you, there was some old research that people have been kicking around for awhile that involves unique intersecting magnetic fields, I believe in some form of rotation, with a core as dense as a White Dwarf, or something to that effect!
lol you'll have to pardon me in that case, as when I think ark, I tend to think of either colony ships or two of every animal waiting out an ugly flood!

Oh very, I hated doing that project. Thankfully I only got to spend half the semester on it since I took another English class for half a credit back in freshman year.
And oh, I do remember that’s what they were doing making earth magnetic field. But it’s been a very long time since I watched the documentary. XD
You’re good dude.

Thank you very much, my friend! I can't tell you how happy that makes me! lol and while filling in the information, my thoughts did drift to wondering what you'd make of the history of this ship and just the general details! Believability are big factors for me, no matter how far in the future I right! lol it needs that authentic feel!
Indeed, you'd be more than right there! A vessel of that size, let alone a fleet? lol I wouldn't want to be the person facing the opposite side of those turrets! I'm also currently working on other drawings of some of the other classes of ship that are in humanity's fleet! lol when they'll come up in the story though is anyone's guess, but given humanity, we tend to branch out and explore!
lol well hey! I've actually been doing Digital for awhile now! lol Thank you though, I've been working at getting proficient with it, and I think my art has really benefited from it!
lol and yeah, no worries. With where I am, the hurricane was actually a lot wimpier than most of the usual thunderstorms I get! It all worked out pretty well! Work was insane though!

I mean, even though you drew this a long time ago it's still downright impressive! You were talking about clustering of details - have you ever heard of the 3-size model for that?
...I couldn't find the tutorial for that particularly, but if I ever do I'll ping it over to you. In the meantime, how about this for detail at a distance? https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/4503668373028487/

lol thank you! Originally it started as a piece I'd done for Inktober, and then I went back and did it digitally! I don't think I have!
Thanks! I look forward to hearing more about this! And thanks for the link! I'm always up for more learning where I can get it.

Well, the 3 size model is where you add detail by adding something big, something medium-sized, and something small in a cluster. The tutorial shows it for buildings that you want extra detail on - castles that have been built on after the initial build, that sort of thing. It's a neat tip so like I said, I'll keep an eye out for it popping back up on my feed!
I know there was something that I wanted to try too but I forget the name of it! It was something popular in like 80s animes that gave them their unique and striking color style! It was like 4 step or 4 count shading! lol I'm going to have to try this out some time! And likely too working on bigger canvases would probably help too.
