where my feet were was kinda this gooy clay, and my knees were in some too, but just beneath the surface of the smooth top layer it was a rather gross sloppy mess that was seriously bogging me down, felt like thick cold oatmeal. I'm used to mud and the like, but that was kinda disgusting to be slopping around in like that.
