Light bulbs are manly, you can't see/find your manly tools to use them in the dark.

Gunna be honest, I would not be opposed to receiving practical gifts as a house warming present.

True but I usually go for storing item. Stuff accumulate surprisingly fast and you need a place to put them without making your house or apartment too messy.

I saw an ad for some neat lightbulbs a while back. They look like regular LED bulbs but they have an internal backup battery. You can even take them out of the fixture and use them like a flashlight.

sledgehammers are a unisex tool; honestly, if a person needs a sledgehammer, they should have one handy.

I actually did this for my cousins' wedding.
I had heard stories of people who getting their first home find themselves short of simple yet necessary things like A hammer, a plunger, salt, pepper, toilet paper, detergent and other items.
So I made a box of stuff and packed it all up, wrapped it and she and her husband were very greatful once they realised that they didn't have anything like that.
