I don't expect anyone to actually look at this
I came across something a week or two back, http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/ and then I found these http://www.treehugger.com/files/200.....ner-houses.php
Got me thinking about some of my other fancy designs for shipping container based houses, and what I could do to make them smaller and more mobile, since as an engineer and survivalist, the ability to move around easily is good.
Since most people spend much of their time in one spot, I designed it around a comfortable living room with a separate (tiny) office and storage part that doubles as spare bunking.
Design will have a steampunk/dieselpunk aesthetic to it and extending awnings and porches and things that are not pictured.
Left is bottom floor, left is the upper/loft. Arrows indicate direction of access.
Will probably draw up an actual artistic rendering of the inside as viewed looking from the entryway.
I don't expect anyone to actually read this. In the unlikely event that you do, feel free to ask questions or things.

This one's even accurate to a scale of 1 block is .5 foot, it's an 8x20 container, I was trying to determine if I could fit everything I wanted into it while still having enough room to be comfortable. I never had a class in it, but I sat next to someone who did. I'm not applying some of the things you are SUPPOSED to, but since I plan to build the thing myself, by hand, it's good enough.
Woo for projected overall initial cost of around $5000. 1000-1500 for the container, 500-1000 to get everything insulated with some kind of high efficiency foam, probably toss in some of those plastic "hardwood" floors (they're well insulated and comfy to walk on) for another few hundred, another 500-1000 probably for the insulated, folding roof. Then when it's done, it's even tougher than most normal houses after it's anchored to the ground with what amount to gigantic tent stakes made from metal pipes or sharpened 4x4s

Not only is it good for the environment (although I'm "green" out of purely selfish reasons: I'm cheap), it's inexpensive, gives me the ability to make it almost completely myself, it's insanely tough (it's a moderately gigantic armored box!).
Was talking to one of my housemates and they mentioned ones of those used by race teams that have a 1 car garage in the back, wouldn't be at all hard to make, just use a 40' one instead of 20' and add a wall at 20' back. Would reduce my ability to make it all terrain capable though.
I also plan to have some method of bringing a hydroponic greenhouse with (possibly attached to a second vehicle), see how much food i can get to grow in random places I shouldn't be able to grow things for whatever reason.
Oh, and all the awnings and stuff would have the new flexible, cheap photovoltaic panels they have recently figured out and some compact omnidirectional wind turbine generators and stuff.

I'll probably have hookups to the grid at least some of the time depending on where I am, but mostly use them to put energy INTO the system. My only real problem with doing that would be my fondness for high power electronics. I'm going to make sure the power company can't screw me over with a $15 a month charge to have a "special" meter that can run backwards if I produce more power, since most meters should automatically run backwards if the power flow through them goes backwards.
Eh, I lived in an apartment that was 12x12 TOTAL probably, including the bathroom and kitchen, and it had slanted ceilings to the degree that I couldn't use any of the space efficiently. Pretty much all I need is a comfortable spot to sit, use my computer and TV, and/or do homework, a kitchen sufficient to make food, and a bathroom.
I need to show you my parent's friend's "camper", which is actually basically just a small towable house (that requires a semi-tractor trailer sized vehicle to do so). I stepped inside it the first time and went "You know, this is really nice. I could live here comfortably without the slightest trouble". Of course, when it's set up, it's 40x12 (480 square feet). But what really makes it nice is the spacious, comfortable living room to spend time in, which is why I devoted half of the place to a pretty good sized parlor/living room.
I dunno, see I crave the space, luxury etc so ya...some smaller dwellings I suppose could be quite nice and comfortable for most but not me...aside from that one house I saw when looking for a new place to live this year, which was small but had a history that redeemed it for being that size
