something i always like to toy with but get little chance to show is that aliens really won't (don't) and couldn't have the same sense of morality and thought patterns as humans. so sometimes...they'll surprise us.
also a note: "pagan" in this comic just means "anyone who does not worship the Ruler." they're not the floofy new agey wiccany kind of pagan. just any religion not the mainstream.
though part of me wanted to draw horrible scenes of brutality here, it just isn't solla's character to fly off the handle. she's a commanding officer, she got that way by keeping her cool.

If you think about how Suega's race is describe you can see the kind of thinking here that had them set up the massacre of the Mites.
Arrogant, self serving to extremes, and in it for themselves. In are own world we can see the different forms of morality of a group. It probably never occurred to her the matters of what she's involved in might go beyond any form of protection that morality in normal situation would apply to.
Doesn't really help that her obvious closed minded thinking of others probably lead her to this. If she's the standard of her race, then her race sucks by a good margin.

well, they don't "suck" they're just rigged for survivalism...on their own planet. evolution on their world never planned for the ability to leave the surface of the planet, and they grabbed it with both hands to help them eliminate their primary rivals for resources (the Mites).
there aren't many utini and there aren't many mites left because utini more or less overestimated the impact of the devestation they'd cause.

soshika's never been very good at thumping people around (none of the lypha family is) but she is the more aggressive, it's true. she just tends to be more verbally aggressive.
in all honesty the most likely to torture suega is sartre. myches really don't give a shit if they hurt others, as long as they accomplish the myche-oriented goal.
