Blue On Blue!
Mihicha gripped her bags tightly as the ship's hull shook. She had never spent much time going from place to place, and this was the most extended voyage she had made. Yet, with her little girl Oonka beside her, she reaffirmed herself and smiled.
Two weeks on a ship was painful for Mihicha but torture for Oonka. She was proud that Oonka had stayed relatively calm. While they had conned their way to getting onboard, not all of the workers knew they were there. The slightest noise or loud voice would give them away, and Mihicha winced at what they would do to them if found.
Mihicha had saved up scraps of money, all of which was spent on extra clothes and food. But to purchase a ship pass to the outer rim would give away the purpose of such a voyage.
Escape.
The Rynar Collective was all Mihicha knew, and she despised every second of it. She was bred for unwavering loyalty, which shattered when the Collective lied about her husband's death.
She was skeptical when Namaeo left, unsure why the Collective needed such urgent secrecy. But with the invasion of Earth being public knowledge, she knew where Namaeo went and why he didn't return.
The man's smile fluttered across her mind as she looked down at their child; she looked so much like her father. Oonka's eyes were wide, though she said nothing. Mihicha had to draw her strength not to cry when the little girl smiled in ignorance.
Clutching little Oonka's hand to remind herself why she had to stay strong. She waited for the ship to dock perfectly. Mihicha put her hand on Oonka's head to keep her quiet when the floor seemed to suck them down. Though the vessel had gravity, it gave a constant sense of weight shifting with how often it fluctuated. The stations were more potent and much more consistent.
Mihicha waited for the two pilots of the trade vessel to disembark. She quickly stepped out from the ship when a chance arose and hurried Oonka along. Grimacing as Oonka clung to a doll of the Rynar Matriarch.
Keeping low, they hastily crept behind boxes until they met an engineering door leading to the back areas of the station. It was an engineering shaft mainly used for storage, and with the door closing, Mihicha felt a wash of relief over her, soon taking the time to look at her child.
Oonka seemed to understand they were doing something considered wrong but completely trusted her mother. Her innocent smile warmed the older Rynar's heart, reigniting her flame to continue with each passing glance.
"Oonka... Mihicha will find a home soon... But for now, waiting is something one must do a little longer... Can Oonka do that for Mihicha?"
Oonka smiled, opening her arms and jumping slightly to hug her mother. Nuzzling her nose into the woman's neck. Mihicha broke into a grin as she held her little girl.
Mihicha slowly rubbed the girl's back, though they soon heard a slight cough beside them. Turning her eyes, she flashed a smile to a confused Lupari in power armor. His chest plate held a small logo to show he was station police.
Quickly standing, she blinked as the wolf man barked at her. Making a series of animal sounds while gesturing to the duo.
Mihicha put a finger to her ear to show she had no translator, and when the guard realized this, his brow furrowed. Taking his off, he offered it over before speaking.
Mihicha had to set it up, but soon the man repeated himself.
"What are you doing back here? Can I see your identification cards?"
Mihicha took the item off and handed it to him before responding.
"Mi... Mihicha had left them at home..! Little Oonka had a bellyache from such a large crowd. Mihicha thought to bring Oonka back here to rest for a moment."
The man nodded, and though his eyes softened, it was clear he didn't believe them. Offering his hand out, they exchanged the translator again, and he sighed.
"I don't want to put any undo pressure on you, ma'am... But..."
Pulling out his Yutri, he punched in the woman's name. When no results showed up, he punched in the child's name, and the same lack of results flickered forth.
"Where are you from?"
The woman flinched, though when her child tugged on her shirt, she hissed out. After a shaky pause, she handed the translator back. Though soon gave a worried look to Oonka.
The man raised his hand and soon waved her along. Mihicha quickly patted Oonka's hand and motioned her to stay while she followed the man. Once they were out of earshot of the little girl, the woman gently sighed.
"Rynar... The Rynar Collective... But please... If one must send us back, just send Mihicha! Oonka deserves a better life than.."
She paused, noticing the man wasn't getting angry. Though his expression seemed pained, he shook his head.
After a trade back of his translator, he sighed.
"Ms. Mihicha... It's not for me to say what happens... This is a neutral station, ma'am. Taking on Rynar refugee-... Well... I'm going to have to call this in. But if you can just explain your case to the station higher-ups..."
Despite this, the fact that they weren't instantly being sent back to the Rynar vessel made the woman step forward and smile. Yet the Lupari flinched, his hand flicking down to his sidearm to show that despite being friendly, he was ready to defend himself.
Soon the man eased back as Mihicha nodded. Despite exhaustion weighing her movements, she didn't dare want to seem weak before the man. Though, after a moment, he sniffed the air before tilting his head.
"I'm not going to hurt you... Relax..."
Mihicha turned her eyes to the side, thankful that Oonka was staying put. Soon she relaxed her shoulders and took deeper breaths; the Lupari smiled and tapped his Yutri.
"This is Guard Yeuran calling in. I've got two Rynar refugees, both female, a mother, and her child. Taking them to the detention wing. Can someone meet me there?"
There was unintelligible static from his helmet, and despite being terrified, the woman was trying to keep a smile. After signing off, the man nodded and gestured for her to hand his translator back.
Oonka waddled in and hissed lowly as she did so, dragging her doll on the floor while her orange eyes looked up at the duo.
"Oonka is tired..."
Yeuran's tail wagged as he knelt. Mihicha tensed up when the Lupari extended his hand to her child. Seeing her worry, Yeuran leaned back and smiled. With Oonka yawning, she turned her eyes to her mother. Mihicha slowly bent down and picked the girl up.
Cradling the girl in her arms, the Rynar woman bowed her head and hissed lowly.
"Mihicha thanks Yeuran..."
The man waved this off and smiled, his tail wagging. As if knowing what he was saying, the woman patted Oonka and smiled shakily.
"Mihicha was worried that being found would be more... Violent..."
Yeuran shook his head and gestured down the way; his smile rose as he nodded.
"Welcome to Station 17! I hope you guys can find this place to be home."
