Heh I can’t believe I never posted this pic! This is my first ever halfcut pic, back when 
Cervelet’s Leggy was the biggest inspiration for the form.
Captain “Kanga” Vitali is a Legalis, the original halfcuts in my universe. The form you see on Earth in most of my characters originated from her species! And an “uplifted” one at that!
They were just semi-omnivorous (in particular insectivorous) tribals roaming across a pretty flat continent on their home planet, using their long legs for running, when UFIS scientists found them and, semi-accidentally, introduced them to higher technology. Now they’re a member of the Federation, with multiple colonies across Federation space, and are found on an untold number of ships.
Because of the “accidental” uplift, the Precursor scientists stationed in their Atlantean outpost on Earth decided to, with the help of Terran magic, recreate the conditions for them to evolve naturally. They chose a remote island in the Nicobar Islands, and with the help of the native Nicobarese People, placed a tribe of Legalis on the island.
