A good secretary is invaluable, and a clever scribe can reach far beyond their station in time. Grand and important offices are open before the secretary. The economy, the armies and the republic itself depends on them and their work, but the clever secretary-general makes herself indispensable but invisible. Vital and unnoticable in the machine of empire. The work is best done that no one ever notices, and the power is the most securedly held that is never shown.

There are other ways to make a magnificent display, of course.
