I won't have any of the Face Cards left to open up for but this is an example of how they'll be turning out.
Face Cards have a bit more detailing with colored pencils (I use white paper instead of the brown paper too, for vividness), as well as the addition of gold/silver leaf.
Gold leaf scans horribly but it looks pretty darn spiffy on the badge itself. :) It also flattens out GREAT being laminated. (You can kind of see it conforming to the slight texture of the card.)
Its just.. a bit of a pain in the arse to position metallic leaf. I might have to find some sort of non-lumpy fixative to help with that cause sandwiching it under the character cut out and the card while also holding the position of the name (which is another cut out bit of paper on the back of the card) is just asking for disaster. Maybe I should have been a surgeon instead. ;p

You mean something like this?

Or something else entirely? I use the stuff from the above link, though haven't thought to try and use the adhesive with the badges since the adhesive is rather, uh, runny when it first comes out. I'd be concerned about it soaking into the card too much/warping it before it dried well enough to put on the leaf. I might have to go with some sort of stick-paste and like.. dab it on with a toothpick or something. I only need just enough tack to keep the flakes from (literally) floating away from me!

One idea that may or may not work, if you're looking to do patterns with the gold leave, use a sheet of that adhesive masking material, cut the pattern, then dab the adhesive through that. Depending on the thickness of the leaf adhesive, the mask *should* be able to dam it until it gets tacky.
