a while ago I did these perspective/deep foreshortening sketches with help of that "made up bullshit Hogarth anatomy!". Well I think it looks farily realistic, actually ;)

(the first one is copied from the book, the rest is unreferenced)

What kind of pen were you using in the bottom right?

A stick, probably bamboo. Probably cut roughly into pen shape, if you mean the thick/wobbly, black stuff.

That's one of the main reasons I can't draw all too well.. Foreshortening and perspective frustrate the hell out of me.

It was pretty easy like this, I didn't set up actual perspective other than letting my eye guide me to how the boxes looked right. May be hard to judge length, esp. for legs.
So give Burne Hogarth's Dynamic Figure Drawing a try.

Hogarth stuff is exaggerated, but he's a good teacher.
And for some reason I read the title as "foreshadowing" sketches and spent a while wondering how the heck you do that.

Yes, it is, isn't it? Maybe it's that a smooth body is hard to draw with convincing perspective... but sometimes it's also a nice change, compared to how many artists do the opposite of exaggerating, have these soft jelly people. I don't know if that makes sense, like, they have reduced surface tension.
