ACT 10- HUBRIS, noun – excessive pride or self-confidence. In Greek tragedy, excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods, leading the nemesis. Had Scales not believed he could control God he might have abandoned the Grand Gambit in time to save himself.
Author’s Commentary
This chapter is the final piece of the ‘trilogy’ that makes up the totality of the battle above Sauria. When I originally planned out this battle I expected it to be a single chapter, but as I fleshed it out and actually began writing it, the narrative continued to expand until it became too long to treat it as a single entry. I split it into two, and then into three chapters over the course of the writing process until I felt happy with the result. Devoting three full chapters to this was the best course, since it allowed me to explore a lot more ideas and to tell a more action packed story.
I spent a lot of hours thinking of different ways to write the whole battle, and a lot of that time was spent during my drive to and from work, which is a 1 hour long commute each day. I made a small playlist of battle themes from different Star Fox games to listen to while I did my thinking, but I had one inclusion that’s ‘different’, which is the Storm Ruler theme from the Demon’s Souls remake. I felt that this track was the closest thing I’d heard that could count as a ‘theme song’ for The Grand Gambit. You can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCfjP689pK0&t=114s&ab_channel=OriginalSoundtrack
But the remake isn’t done yet! There is still one final chapter left to tell, which will drop in due time.
Glossary
> Captain Friedrich – Doberman, this breed of dog was first bred by Karl Friedrich.
> C.A.S. Eversor – Eversor is Latin for destroyer, appropriate for a warship that was able to survive the battle long enough to confront the Grand Gambit with its last breath.

What a great battle. The ship to ship combat while the fighters fight among them, the losses they suffered, the last charge of Eversor and the final blow from The Great Fox as Scales slowly loses his mind.
I had found your story some time ago but it took me a while to finally start reading it, but damm now I can't stop. This feels like the story it should have been, the story that Krystal and Starfox team deserve. I have not played Starfox and only knew Krystal and Fox from the furry fandom and some youtube videos of Starfox games. It always bothered me that the original story of their first meeting was so weak, so much wasted potential. Your story feel thought trough. How Krystal got her staff and how she gained her abilities. That she was just a normal girl at the beginning. The fact that Fox is not a rambo and must be stealthy. I still have to read last chapter and NSFW chapters, but I have to thank you for writing this book. I am enjoying every part of it.
