The outfit only told Meldihnyia one thing, this was the infamous Ey’Nid Vaux.

Grand Admiral Ey’Nid Vaux. Commander of the entire Conjoined Arms Human-Odraani fleet and Liaison for the Paktum in the Human solar system. Esteemed war hero, unofficial politician and devout peoples soldier, Ey’Nid Vaux was perhaps the highest ranking individual for lightyears in any direction.

Most certainly higher ranking than any Commodore.

“Uh…” Meldihnyia muttered, choking on a series of guttural squeak’s as her knees buckled, instinctively readjusting her glove while the Grand Admiral passed down a hearty salute with her talon like gloves, pressing the brim of her beret that held aloft the military insignia of the Odraani.

“Grand Admiral Ey’Nid Vaux, at your service!” The Grand Admiral piped up, folding her arms behind her back as she stiffened her stance with pride. “But, I presume you already know that! I apologize for my absence at the launching ceremony, certain matters acquired my particular attention, especially on a flag ship such as the Lewis & Clark!”

“Umm…”

“Breathtaking, isn’t it? By far the fastest ship I have ever set foot on, perfectly encapsulating the Human Spirit against the cruel indifference of the universe, as its local sardonic inhabitants seem inclined to suggest!”

“Ah jeeze…!”

“Do not fret, an Ensign like you will find yourself quite at home, far from the dangers of the void as the lack of medical equipment that is so prevalent on our usual uniform would suggest!”

“Oh my…!”

Just a brief snippet from a short story I wrote featuring my Odraani OC's who are central characters in a much larger project but for goofs and gaffs I decided it would be fun to portray their first interaction. You can read the whole story below! Mind you It's not as in-depth as my usual writing scheme and is missing a TON of Odra terminology for the setting. With a heavy dosage of Alternate Universe Material so your mileage on canon may vary ^^'

Art-wise, a wonderful commission done by the one and only MrMcArthur from DA! https://www.deviantart.com/mrmcarthur Who has an amazing eye for women in uniform and particularly cool pairs of boots, so hats off to him for cranking out such an esoteric pair for Ey'Nid, but also doing such a cute job on Officer Meldihnyia who was more then happy to detail despite having no existing references for her when the commission started ^^

Still not entirely settled on Ey'Nid's color scheme aside from her uniform, as despite her intentionally anachronistic uniform I wanted her scales to portray her unusually warm and down-to-earth personality which is in deep contrast to the usual commanding hardasses I grew up watching on 80's and 90's cinema. Took a lot of inspiration from Captain Amelia and real world examples such as Soviet General Georgy Zhukov and French WW1 Commander Philippe Pétain so hopefully in time I can figure out a better suitable color scheme but as it stands I do like her palette against her blue uniform c:

Regardless, I'm stoked with how this turned out and this won't be the last time we see these two, especially Mel! ;)
