Entangle (and Web) was the two most helpful crowd control spell I used the most time when adventuring in Baldur's Gate games. Entangle is a bit less powerful over Web, but still, I love it very much. Such a sword would have opened up a spot in my party, and instead of a druid, I could bring another ranged character. Very useful spell and the weapon looks nice as well.
Fear and alike can't even compare, as fear breaks on first damage. I always used a rouge to scout ahead (especially in IWD 1-2) and then blew a barrage of Entangle/Web with mages and druids with Ring of Freedom or alike, then retreated and range killed everything with fireball, skull trap, and ranged weapons. I was rarely in the need of a tank in IWD. BG has more enclosed space combats, and so I was forced to use defense booster stuff, and having a few tanks, like paladin, and summoned creatures.
