I logged on, saw a thumbnail of this, and I just had to click to see more.
Nice job with the graphs! I think they're a valuable contribution to the data for those who like visuals and such. It makes data easier to read and all, as you already know and I'm boring you with stating. I just had thought of doing similar one day but just never got around to it. :P
A few things though,
I don't think the bar graph that curves is as good a choice as a simple bar graph. Visually it's a little hard to follow, and it gets worse when you move through the time line with colors shifting and lengths changing. I'd keep it to just a simple bar graph for that one.
The ring graph for religion is okay, but for "how furry" I think could be tighter so that the data relates to one another more. I'd personally go with a pie chart, but I can see what you're doing with wanting to show progression over time. I'd just go a step further and reduce the space between the rings and pull 2010 and 2009 out from the rings. Maybe have a white and black line pointing at a part of the ring to indicate which ring is which. Right now the white is too much for me and it starts to separate the relationship between the two rings.
Other than that little critique, great job!

Hey, thanks for your input. I did that aspect first and, the more time that goes by, the less I like it. Unfortunately, I'm now so burnt out on Protovis that any changes are going to have to wait - I've been working on vis stuff for, like, four days straight :D I eked out http://vis.mjs-svc.com/lgbsanction/ in under two hours yesterday on top of the SoF stuff, so I'm beat :o)
Thanks again, though!

Woot! Atheists are represented ten more percent than in the mainstream. :Ð Depending on how the Agnostic responders define what an agnostic is that would be 41% +/- of the responders are skeptical. There is hope after all. :Ð Now to see how this pans out over the years.
Is that slice between Hindu and Other Christian representing Islam?
I also find it interesting that most furs do not consider sex important but assume that other furs do. It must be all that porn on FA. :Þ
Yeah Sci-Fi! :Ð

One of the things I wonder about the data is how much it differs from the non-furry, tech savvy portion of the population. For example, are people who spend a lot of time on the net just as likely as furries to identify almost evenly across the whole spectrum of sexual orientations? Ditto with religions.
I'm on my phone so I can't really tell, but if you're at your computer you should be able to hover over that slice for a tool tip.
And yeah, the perceived sexuality thing is one of the most interesting results, I think :o)

Geospatial isn't very normalized. I'll talk with Klisoura and see if I can snag that from one of the more recent years, where that was collected in a fashion that would be easy to normalize.
What data I do have is from a FA forum entry and is just a choropleth of the contiguous states: http://vis.adjectivespecies.com/fur.....as/states.html Unfortunately, it doesn't take population into account, so states on either tail of the bell curve may be misrepresented. Additionally, you can check out http://ifpl.cattech.org/ which has some additional data; however, there is no taking into account multiple entries. Something like a yearly survey would likely be a better way to collect that sort of data :o)
Any additional aspect of geo you'd like to see?

well It wold be interesting to add external demographics about counties, like do college towns attract some types but not others? Are you more likely to see some trends in rural locations where there is less to do than in dense city centers? Do people fursuit more in rich or poor counties, republican or democrat counties, ect., ect.? There is a lot of relevant government data that could be added to this.
I wonder if there is something we can do to profile the type of furries who would not take this survey. The survey is primarily composed of furries who classify their involvement in the 5-8 region and above. This means that only about 25% of the data comes from casual furries, who are likely quite numerous but don't really care about the community enough to take a survey.
Here's a bit more location data:

I'll see what else I can pull together with the data I can get :o)
