Trust me... eue You get what you pay for. But I do agree, they're pretty pricy. Mind you, I never buy full retail anything. I tend to build shit from parts/broken computers. Since I have that ability, I can usually get things for a tenth of the discount price. C:
You do void the warranty, but fuck the warranty. If it breaks, I'ma fix the damn thing. :D Macs are just like any other computer, except the way they're designed can sometimes make it tricky to mod. It's a challenge, but it's always a possibility.
I like the simplicity because it means there's less for me to hunt through to get to the desired result, whatever that may be. But I'll definitely add my own hacks to the interface, mod the way it handles networking, or add some extra hardware goodies... c:

hehe yeah i know, once people are used to not pay is very hard to start charging, even with low prices.
On my case when i started with my friends computers, they wanted to pay me,i didn't asked them nothing :3
I usually charge for format + installation of the os or hardware repair/upgrade,for minor fixes i don't charge, but if someone feels generous i don't say no XD With friends the accepted payments goes from money to beer or various exchange, like i fix your pc,you fix my car

Heh, yeah. xD I've ended up doing some pretty tricky hard drive replacements (never easy on some macs - particularly laptops), and stuff like that I'd end up charging for because it took a lot of time. A simple reinstall of the OS is never all that hard or time consuming... most of it is just sitting there and watching it work. I think probably the hardest thing I've ever done for someone else is replace the entire motherboard and hard drive in an iBook G3 clamshell. Those things are a bitch to disassemble.
Or maybe the time I disassembled a recently-used emac with no directions. lolol e.e Dangerous as sin, those things are.

i have never worked on macs,i honestly haven't idea of how they are,but i fully agree that disassemble laptops is one of the harder and dangerous thing to do if there are no manuals! infact now if i have to work on a laptop i look around for the manual, always!
The hardest thing i have ever done was fix my old IBM R31,bought on ebay 2 years ago without power supply, hard disk, bios battery (and a damn bios password) and broken keyboard XD first laptop and big, hard job.i used it till 5 month ago when it decided to not collaborate anymore XD
Now the "hard" thing to take care of are virus on ours loved Microsoft Windows,Microzoz Winzoz how me and my mate like to call it XD zoz is the abbreviation of "zozzo" in italian means dirty XDDD

I like that. xD That's quite an appropriate name for such a company. I call it microshaft. C:
Sounds like quite a job! But obviously you managed to get it all working again. Indeed impressive! On older mac laptops it's damn near impossible to replace parts, but on the newer ones, you just pop the hatch on the bottom, and you can get to everything. It's SO nice! Makes my job a hell of a lot easier, lemme tell ya.
Apple used to make it difficult for people to work on them I would guess because they didn't want people to mod them and they wanted to get the service comissions. Well, since there's a new generation, I think they've discovered if we're determined, we're going to do it anyway. So why waste their paid employees' time, and make it easier to fix them? :/
Meanwhile I don't have to make it an all-day project to work on them. :D

Well, for me is kind of a second job, actually i'm working part time as street-sweeper in my city, call it only street-sweeper didn't give me honor XD is a small town and i do lot of other things besides cleaning around XD and that's why i love it,my second desktop for example, comes from my city dumping ground....and who now how it's arrived in my bedroom :P
Btw,with a part time job i can't rise much money,so i take care of people computers, just for gain something more,so i can buy new stuff or simply help my mate,he's still studying at university (informatic science :P) and buy him the train tickets for come at my place :3
My old dear R31....is my proud,i worked 5 days on it,the first one spent on a big annual informatics fair 90 miles away from here XD
And yeah,Apple and lot of other industries makes their product hard to fix for customers,as you said they want to get the service commission but we,determined people,we can do it anyway! this is for computers but also with cell phones, cars, washing machines and lot more,i know it very well!

Yes indeed! C: It sounds like you're quite the handy-person too... I actually don't often get to go to computer fairs or the like... I'm kinda on my own when it comes to dealing with things. I'm used to ripping things apart and putting them together again.
But that's how you do it! C: You find stuff that's junk and make it into something usable. Man, I almost thought I was the only crazy one who found computers in garbage bins and rebuilt them. xD I definitely don't know too many other people who can do things like that...

i even don't know many other people like us,we're quite rare! But hell! how nice and funny is work in this way! fix and why not create a complete new thing from nothing, using only our abilities?
And i'm a very handy-person,i put my paws on everything XD Hey,i was thinking, why not add you to my msn list? we can talk there about our crazyness XD

You build shit too? Sweet. Why is it I can have a presence on the internet for like two weeks, and then suddenly other cyberpunks crawl out of the woodwork? What is this madness? I thought I was the only one. e.e
I'd upload pictures, but I don't want that shit posted on FA... But I give you my word, it's pretty intense.

I build shit when I have to. The tech I pack is insane. It's like something out of doom 3 or the matrix in my room. I love it. All I'm gonna say is I have a lot more than just three computers. Heh...
I know how to weld, to solder, and to craft wood. :D It is very fun and very dangerous.
