Dodging manhole covers being blown into the sky as a deep fiery glow shows in the distance.
Inspiration taken from the 1997 movie Volcano, was it dumb compared to most other disaster flicks of the time? Yes, but as a young boy I loved this and Dante's Peak and given both had Suburbans, that was how my love for GMs big Suburbans SUV was spawned.

Most disaster flicks tend to be on the low end - Volcano's not unique in that regard. At least Dante's Peak had a pretty realistic pyroclastic flow if you discount the mine crash scene, since that would never have stopped everyone in that SUV being boiled. And Twister was pretty scientific with its tornados for its time.
Yeah, that subway scene was good on style but absolutely ridiculous physics-wise. Everyone onboard would've been dead by the time the lava started moving under the cars, including the guy who climbed aboard and later ended up jumping into the pool at the rear, as would all the rescuers nearby. You can't just walk up to the edge of lava without protective equipment - you'd combust getting within a few feet.
