Gwen was a trainwreck after his wife had died. Badgernukis have a hard time dealing with grief over the loss of their lover. And Gwen was no different. He would never marry again because Katherine was the one for him. And for a long time, he thought he had no purpose anymore. Many times, he had contemplated ending it all just to see her again in the afterlife. But he was always too afraid to go through with it.

Then came Eliza. At the age of thirteen, the orphan had a chance encounter with Gwen at a supermarket. She was a big fan of his work and showed an interest in bounty hunting, which in their world is a lot more dangerous work than our world's variant is.

At first, Gwen didn't like her very much and would brush her off, telling her he was retired and for her to find a better line of work when she grew up. But Eliza was persistent. Every other day she would come visit his house to socialize with him and he eventually began caring about her more and more.

It got to a point that Gwen was even considering adopting her from the orphanage she stayed in. But this was a hard decision for him because he did not want to get into another position where someone he cared about could potentially be taken from him again.

Circumstances, however, lead to him finally making the decision to become her legal guardian. Circumstances that I cannot speak on yet as many of you will find out in due time.

Ever since then, Eliza and Gwen have grown very close and have a very good father/daughter style relationship. Gwen has found new purpose in providing for Eliza, watching her grow up and graduate high school, and teaching her a variety of things such as how to use a firearm, self defense, driving cars and how to be a proper bounty hunter. Eliza has made Gwen a better man. He has stopped drinking and smoking cigarettes and is usually in better moods nowadays.

Gwen went from a broken man with nothing to lose to gaining a very precious relationship with someone he never thought would make him this happy ever again. And Eliza went from an orphan with no one to turn to into a highly skilled bounty hunter and having a great role model to boot.

This painting is to portray the fact that they are extremely close. And they make an amazing team when on the job.
