150 Watchers: 018-019 Rattata line
I’m doing the 150 pokémon for my first 150 FA watchers. In September of 2012 I found Found and started engaging with its community. It’s a fantastic story even if you’re not “into” babyfur stuff (take it from me, a certified not-a-babyfur). This foray eventually resulted in this piece.
LittleStinker
Again, I’m not sure when exactly LittleStinker watched me, but I think it was at about this time. Like many others, she saw me in the comments and, well you know the rest.
I spent way too long trying to find if she had a still-active account before actually starting to just draw her.
LittleStinker was (back then) a cute little skunk girl who loves her toys... wait, Rattata is not a toy! Oh well. Pokémon make good babysitters, right? I’m sure he’ll take care of her.
I’m concerned here about the similarities with the last Rattata sketch, my recent Blastoise sketch, and to a lesser degree my Magnemite sketch. I’ve noticed some artists end up able to draw only a limited number of angles or poses. I’m constantly afraid that may happen to me. And that’s not just some random fear, I was actually in that situation a while back.
My main concern while drawing this one, though, was whether she looked “young enough”. I guess I miss my guidelines, but "no guidelines" is part of the rules of the challenge
TaviMunk
I was immensely honored to receive Tavi’s watch. I think I can safely say he needs no introduction (and didn’t back then either!)
Tavi is an enterprising little chipmunk who often posts about his “backyard builds” (I mean, it is by far not the main thing he posts about, but it’s definitely one of his top interests). He would probably take receiving a Raticate as an excuse to build a giant hamster wheel!
I thought a lot about my only other time drawing a chipmunk while doing this piece. As I said back then, chipmunks are stunningly hard to draw, and Tavi’s style is different enough to my own that the reference didn’t help much (normally I'd look for more references, including real life, but part of the rules for this challenge are to use the minimal amount of references possible). I also thought a lot about whether the Raticate looked too much like a Rattata
As with the twitter sketches, if you want yours colored, or if you want me to edit you in to somebody else's, I'll happily do it for $5 (not counting shading)
