this is the first drawing I've done of the Gunship Aries. Since this pictures conception his design has been altered slightly, the only alterations are to the overall condition of his hull. well here I'll give it to you in a more informative way. Aries and his class of ship are old, many older than Earth, and Aries being the Grandaddy of them all, is no exception to this rule. the race that created these ships had previously made a living monstrosity, one they needed to erase, so the Gunship was born ( although they weren't called that when they where built). As the fist ship of his kind to be built, he was also the only one in which a sort of life was bound, think of it as a form of natural A-I system, a living one. on board each of these ships is a weapon known only as the Devastation Cannon, quite possibly the most powerful weapon ever made. when this cannon fires, if it's beam doesn't just envelope the target and rip it to nothing but atoms, it leaves takions behind that continue to eat the target away, thus being a very efficient killer. The only problem is that firing this cannon also leaves particles within the firing ship that change neural pathways in the brain, thus driving the firing crew to insanity. So as things went, these cannons eventually drove most of the race that made these ships to commit Genocide on many planets. Aries being the only ship with the capacity to think for himself decided that what his crew was ordering him to do, well he didn't like it. So as the ships attacked a near by planet of cat people, Aries spaced his crew, and began to annihilate any ship of his kind. being that he is somewhat alive and also the alpha Gunship, he has a bit more punch to offer when he gets pissed. After he destroyed all of the ships attacking the planet, he vowed to purge the universe of all of his kind, that the universe had too much potential for good, to have monsters such as himself to ruin it, this in the end would also include himself. during the time of the Greek empire, Aries was eliminating one of his brethren in Earths solar system, the Greeks saw this, and called him Aries, the first time he was given a name, Aries thought it a fitting name and decided it would be his. in the time that he has been cruising the cosmos, he has sustained enormous amounts of damage, so much that his systems should all be dead, only by shear force of will does he have the strength to keep his power, thrust, and weapons functioning. his hull barely holding to his framework, and fires that never get put out, he resembles more of a ghost ship than anything ready for war. The Imperial Alliance was the only organization that Aries found to be close to what he sought, peaceful, only resorting to cannon blows, if provoked, so he joined up with them, under the stipulation that they not get in the way of his personal mission. Well I hope you like this story, I know it's a bit on the long side, but it describes who and what Aries truly is, this current design will be used for all other Gunships, just with a few paint revisions on certain ones
